Utah Solidarity Party Endorses Evan McMullin for U.S. Senate

Salt Lake City, UT: The State Committee of the Utah Solidarity Party is pleased to announce its endorsement of Evan McMullin for the position of Senator from the state of Utah. By supporting both the right to life for the unborn as well as the need to economically support mothers and their children, Evan shows that he cares about life both before and after birth and believes in the centrality of the institution of the family. We believe that Evan recognizes the necessity of justice in society, as shown by his support for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and his opposition to union-busting activities such as Right to Work. We applaud Evan’s calls for faithful stewardship of the environment, especially his recognition that fighting climate change means supporting the building of new nuclear plants, and we appreciate Evan’s concern for fossil fuel workers that will be displaced by the shift in energy. We support Evan’s push to disrupt the two-party system that consolidates power in the hands of party bosses and so often forces citizens to choose between the lesser of two evils. Most of all we believe that Evan is a man of high character who will respect the rule of law and restore our faith in our democratic institutions.

While we do have some areas of disagreement with Evan, such as his stance on implementing means-testing and raising the retirement age for social security, the State Committee of the Utah Solidarity Party believes that, as outlined above, we have broad areas of agreement with Evan, and that he represents the best chance for defeating Mike Lee in the fall.
